My job role is to be the

Designer (Font, Typography, Layout)

The designer is responsible for how the magazine is going to look. This includes font, colour and Typography. I will have to decide which font we use  along with the layout and the colour scheme this means I will look at all the pictures and text and decide what goes where. I will also have make sure that each of the pages aren’t all too similar.

The genre of the magazine will be entertainment this will be a hybrid of film and music usually each double page will be one half a film review the other half will be based on a soundtrack from said film.

I’m going to be researching Footloose and the song footloose.

Tuesday 13th November

Yesterday I changed which film I was doing as I hadn’t started research at that point I did this so that it would fit better with the topic of musical film rather than just musical. I went from doing Oliver the musical to doing footloose. I started doing research for Footloose and found out various background details and information about the film. I then also went and looked into the song footloose and found numerous facts related to the song for example how well it scored on the charts and the release date.

Wednesday 14th November

Today I’m planning on finishing my research and then getting a layout of the magazine before we can start with the magazine properly.

I have chose the layout below to use as my inspiration. out of a large list of various layouts I thought this was the most suitable for my idea:

21st November:

I have finished my research on Footloose and am now getting to work on my back cover advert for which I have chosen to do a HMV advert. The purpose of the advert is to  offer  a discount off classic movies sold by HMV and try to persuade people to buy a movie. I intend to use the cover for each of the six films I chose and then disclose the offer but above them all I will put HMV along with the dog mascot at the top of the advert. I wish to use the pink and black colours HMV are famous for and that they use on all of there shop signage and adverts.

I had a minor issue with deciding the advert at first because I was originally going to do a musical advert then I sore an example of a furniture magazine which had a car advert on the back that’s when I decided to do an advert for classic movies as they are quite popular to quite a few people.

I used a site called illustrator to create the pink lines and the black background and to add the words after that then I just saved the images I wanted to my MAC desktop then it was as simple as dragging and dropping from there to put each image in and then scale each one down so that they were all appropriate sizes then I need to now add the HMV dog and text to the bottom so people know which company it is.

I intend to find a way to crop the black background from the HMV logo and mascot as the black background was considerably lighter than the main black background I was using.

I also finally finished writing the footloose research to copy and paste the onto the magazine template to make the job able to complete on the last day deadline. I will also have to add the Footloose images I chose that are already saved to my Mac desktop to my magazine two page spread and I should be done.

Today I finished my magazine pages and the advert so I have done my part towards this magazine. In the end.

We discussed and voted on each others role. I ended up with the role of designer which involved me asking the group which font and layout the preferred and we settled on the ones shown above.

We didn’t use most of the ideas that we initially intended to use because of time constraints and we just used fonts and colours that fit the different themes of the different films.

The magazine has been published already at this point. My google drive in also updated as well.

I have placed a link at the top of my blog which will lead to my magazine site and my blog has also been published as well

Primary Research

I found it particularly difficult to find the questions because  I’m not necessarily good at writing questionnaires and it was difficult when making than questions exclusively about Sci fi rather than about a general film topic.

In terms of my questions some of the ones I wrote were perfect for example “what do you think makes a good sci fi movie”. However some of the others for example “Do you think Sci fi movies are being marketed appropriately” could have been changed and made better as I could have put more answers to each questions. I could also have not focused the questions on sci fi exclusively and included other genres.

In terms of other questions I could maybe have a question along the lines of  what is your favorite

rite sci fi movie instead of some of the others that I used in the end as they were not as good as that idea I also would maybe give more options to my questions especially the yes no questions for example I could add a “maybe” option or a “sometimes” option for more variety.

Next time I might add more options to my questions as said above. I would also add more questions in the future. In a second attempt I would try to include more genres rather than focusing on sci fi only and possibly try to word most of the questions better.

My Infographic

Screen Shot 2018-11-06 at 12.40.24

To make my infographic I used the website Venngage I chose one of the more basic templates that was just a blue background to which I replaced it with a picture of the Death Star for the background and an alien from the movie “Alien” in the circle both of which are popular Sci Fi movies which people would recognise. I also Edited the writing so that it fit with the statistics I got during my research. I chose colours for the writing that wouldn’t blend in with the background.

I also chose to remove the various letter z that were all around the original template however I kept the circle that was in the original I just added an alien over the top of the blue circle.

I asked one of my peers what they thought of my design and they said that they thought that it was clearly based on sci fi and that it was set out great and was a smart choice.
